How To Use Your Derma Roller At Home

If you are new to derma rolling or have ever wondered if you are doing it correctly, then we are here to help. Derma rolling is a spa- like treatment that easily integrates into your at- home self care routine. However, in order to reap the most benefits, it is important to know how to use a derma roller correctly. By following just a few simple steps you can get all the anti – aging benefits derma rolling has to offer.

Which is the best type of derma roller to use?

There are many types of derma rollers on the market. But, not all derma rollers are the same. Most fall into two categories- stainless steel or titanium. At Dr. Dermacare we only sell and recommend surgical grade stainless steel needles. Why? The answer is simple. Stainless steel is more sterile than titanium and also allows for sharper, more high precision needles. Stainless steel is also what medical professionals, tattoo artists, and acupuncturists use.

Titanium rollers usually have thicker needles, or discs of teeth which can create larger micro channels in your skin and can consequently cause long term damage.

Our rollers are TGA approved medical devices that come with a money back guarantee, so you can be very confident when purchasing from us. Both the derma roller .3mm and derma roller .5mm options help in skin regeneration and improvement.

Derma Rolling Guide

Step 1- Prepare your skin
The first step is critical, as you want to make sure your skin is clean, and all make up etc has been removed before you start derma rolling at home. Keep in mind that you cannot roll whilst you have active acne or even a minor breakout. This is because the action of rolling can spread bacteria and make your acne even worse!

Step 2-Just roll with it
Now the fun begins! Remove your Dr. Dermacare dermaroller from its protective case ( which is very handy when traveling by the way) and pick an area you would like to start rolling. Without applying any pressure, gently glide the roller over your skin in a horizontal, vertical and diagonal pattern. Roll in each direction at least 4 times, then move to another area. There Is absolutely no need to push the roller into your skin. Doing so may bend the needles and cause damage to your skin. If you are rolling around sensitive areas like your eyes, make sure you stay outside of the orbital bone area. Our skin is much thinner around our eyes and rolling inside the orbital area is not safe.

If you are focusing on crows feet or frown lines, then this handy tip will help you get results. Using your free hand, hold the area taut. Then gently roll the wrinkles or fine lines. By using this method the needles will penetrate the area without any force or pressure being applied. If you choose not to follow this tip, then you may simply be rolling over your wrinkles, instead of rolling into them. This tip is essential if you are using rollers greater than .5mm or longer, as they are designed to induce collagen and essentially “ fill” the wrinkles.

During or after rolling you may notice increased redness. Do not worry, this is completely normal and will subside quickly. If this is your first time rolling, please do a 24 hour patch test first and only roll a maximum of 2 times for the first week.

Step 3- Apply skincare serums and creams.
Now that you have successfully opened up the channels in your skin, it is primed and ready to absorb your skincare products on a deeper level. Fun fact, did you know that without derma rolling most of the products you use simply sit on the surface of your skin, and are blocked from reaching the deeper layers? This means that most of the serums and creams you use go to waste and fail to deliver on their claims and promises. By adding a derma roller into your skincare routine you increase product absorption up to 100% and effectively supercharge your skincare, giving you faster and better results!

Before you apply your skincare, make sure it has active ingredients in it. Top tip, the higher an ingredient is on the list, the more of it the product contains. So, for example, if the product has Vitamin C in it, but it is at the bottom of the ingredients list, it means there is only a very very small amount in the product. What does this mean for you? Well, it means there isn’t enough Vitamin C in the product to be of any benefit when topically applied to your skin. You have wasted your money and will not get the desired results.

Lather your skin, starting with serums first and finishing with moisturisers or heavier creams. After application it will take about 20 minutes for the micro channels to close, locking in the active ingredients and allowing them to penetrate deeper into your skin, and going to where they need to in order to repair your skin- from the inside out!

Step 4- Sanitise your derma roller
Follow the instructions that come with your Dr. Dermacare sanitising spray. Then tuck your roller back into the container, as it is now ready to roll for next time.

Nice to meet you I'm Dr. Dermacare! I created the Dr. Dermacare brand as a way to combine my two passions, Psychology & skincare. I have struggled with my skin on & off for many years & have learned first-hand, that overcoming a skin condition takes more than a clear complexion.
